Tele troubles

OH, WHAT a cracker of a Diwali it was on the channels! Never before have so many blockbusters been telecast. In 10 days, there were so many mega movies like "Lagaan", "Humraaz", "Sixth-Sense", "Gladiator", "Padayappa" and "Minnale".

In Chennai, on Diwali day, cracker shops reported only 40 per cent sales compared to last year as everybody was watching "Minnale" followed by "Padayappa". In Mumbai, much more than popcorn is bursting over Zee TV's Thursday premiere "Humraaz" which has earned a television viewership rating of 6.3 (Tam media - All India Cable and Satellite Homes). STAR Plus and Sony are also feeling the heat as it has sparked stiff competition. Some producers are doing double deals, so nobody knows which channel owns the telecast rights. Ramgopal Varma has sold his "Road" both to STAR Plus and Zee!
