Verse-lets of ethical effulgence
Sadguru K.Sivananda Murty releasing the book written by Kootikuppala Surya Rao .
Visakhapatnam, known for its sustained contribution enriching the Telugu literature, witnessed yet another book release function on November 1, the day on which the dream of millions of Andhras for statehood came true. The venue was the small but serene enclave, a monument built in the name of the saint-poet Vemana. The book was an anthology of poems scripted in simple Telugu by Kootikuppala Surya Rao during 1972-74 which commanded the attention of the renowned litterateur Puranam Subhramanya Sarma , the then editor of the Andhra Jyothi Weekly for publication in it in a row.
The book, titled `Surya Kiranaalu', was released by Sadguru K. Sivananda Murty of Anandavanam (Bhimili) at a function organised by Visakha Saaraswata Vedika and presided over by the MP, M.V.S.S. Murty. While Yarlagadda Lakshmi Prasad, former MP, was presented with the first copy, Vedula Subhramanya Sastry reviewed the contents.
Congratulating Dr. Surya Rao on his flair for poesy and effort at displaying the same with a penchant in spite of the arduous routine in the medical college as a student, Prof. Sastry said that the author was doubly fortunate attracting the attention of two eminent scholars. While a person of the stature like the late Diwakarla Venkatavadhani, one of the very few revered scholars in Sanskrit and Telugu, graciously showered encomiums in his preface that adorned the book, the reputed man of letters, Diwakarlasd Rama Murty, embellished it with a critical commentary replete with notes of comparison with elated thoughts embedded in Sumathi and Vemana satakams on one hand and also some of those revealed in the scriptures, Prof. Sastry said. Comparable to the simple verse-lets of Vemana, the simple poems speak effectively on the many evils including the vagaries in human behaviour that are prevalent in the present day social set-up.
