Dutch treat

LYDIA VAN Dam's voice has literally taken the jazz world by storm. This Jazz singer, who has performed with well-known orchestras such as WDR Big Band, The Skymasters, and The Metropole, will be in the City for a concert.

The concert, organised by The Indian Council for Cultural Relations in association with the Bangalore School of Music, is scheduled for November 20. The concert, to be held at the Guru Nanak Bhavan, is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m..

Lydia will be supported by Bart Van Lier (trombonist). Bart, who has had a brief stint with the radio, television, and commercial studios, has been a member of the Tony Nolts TV orchestra, Netherlands Jazz orchestra, and Boy's Big Band to name a few.

Lydia completed her study at the Conservatory of Hilversum, in The Netherlands, where she studied with Marjorie Barnes, Deborah Brown, Greetje Kauffeld and Ge Titulaer. Rob Becker describes her as "one of the best new non-black voices of her generation".

John Engels (drummer) is the third member of the team. He has recorded more than 60 CDs and 80 records. Of these, six receivedthe Edison Award (the Dutch equivalent of the American Grammy award).

Entry for the concert is by invitation only. Jazz fans can collect the invites from the ICCR office between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m..
