Celebrity wedding with commercial breaks

IF YOU thought weddings in Kerala began and ended in a jiffy, you are wrong. The TV rights for the wedding of Samyuktha Varma and Biju Menon, on November 21, at Thrissur, are being sold!

This is the first wedding of Kollywood -- to be telecast live -- that has channels vying for the telecast rights, notwithstanding the fact that the celebrity couple has quoted an astronomical sum. The hunt for sponsors is also on.

And there is more -- the telecast of the wedding will be like any other regular TV programme with ad breaks et al.

Several questions have now cropped up -- which company will sponsor the `tying the thali' and will the couple guarantee the participation of other film stars to add more glamour? It seems as if weddings will soon turn into events that you can watch on TV at home.
