Harmonious art
HIRALAL KHIMJI just befits the expression `a born artist'. Without any formal training in any form of art, except in the Ikebana School of Japanese Flower Arrangement, in which he was perhaps the first man to acquire a diploma in Japan itself, Hiralal imbues everything he does with his distinctive artistic stamp.
The artist in the 68-year-old man was evident in all his creations that were on display at the recently concluded one-man show of sculptures and collages. The innate talent and self-taught art of Hiraabha, as he is popularly called, spelt perfection in every form. In his art, the East and the West seem to merge in one form of beauty.
The curves, straight lines, diagonals, circles or semi-circles, in vibrant colours, had rhythm and harmony, characteristic of music. Their repetition was never monotonous for the viewers. That his works are particularly emotional and feelings play a unique role could be gauged from every piece on display. The tone and temper visible in most of his sculptures or collages had been derived from this intense emotional feeling.
