To cash in on the World Cup fever, music companies have released music albums celebrating cricket including the sound track of `Stumped' and `Chalo India.'

IT'S THAT cricket-crazy time again - the one that comes every four years, when the entire nation stops whatever it is doing to follow the fortunes of Ganguly, Tendulkar, Sehwag and the rest our team at the World Cup.
To cash in on the cricket bukhar of the people, advertisers have come up with innovative strategies to boost business - exclusive t-shirts resembling the team jersey, special addition cola drinks in the trademark blue colour, loads of special videos and inevitably some new music albums celebrating cricket.
Let us take a peek at a couple of albums released this week. The first is a film soundtrack called Stumped (Virgin Music; Rs.50). The Hindi film industry usually goes into hibernation during World Cup, as movie halls are generally empty. But Reel Life Productions headed by actress, Raveena Tandon has thought of an interesting idea - a film based on cricket, and the craze associated with it.
Raveena has been quoted in Filmfare saying that the film has been inspired by a news item at the time of the Kargil War, where an India-Pakistan cricket match hogged the front pages while the news of the war was pushed to the inside pages. The soundtrack of Stumped is creating waves in the music channels.
The song Humko Toh Hai Poora Yakien has been converted into a music video featuring an array of Bollywood giants. "In victory or defeat, stand tall" is the final message of the song rendered by Shubha Mudgal, Shankar Mahadevan, Shaan, Sudesh Bhosle, Sunidhi Chauhan, KK and Shweta Shetty among others and is filled with lot of josh and enthusiasm.
Another track that deserves praise is Aisa Hi Bada Hua Gavaskar, a bindaas song that talks of how cricketing legends like Gavaskar, Rahul Dravid and Tendulkar grew up on cricket, by disturbing neighbours and breaking car glasses. A bhangra remix of the evergreen Yeh Desh Hai Veer Jawano Ka re-sung by Gurdas Maan is a bonus track in the album.
Sony Music in association with ESPN and Star Sports has released Chalo India (Sony Music; Rs.55), which is a collection of 11 (as in the number of players in the team) Hindi film songs - old and new - which speak of celebration and energy.
Kicking off with Chale Chalo from Lagaan, the album features older hits like Aa Dekhe Zara from Rocky and Yahan Ke Hum Sikandar from Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar with newer hits like Sailaro Sailare from Josh, the title track of Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani with the very famous Maa Tujhe Salaam by A.R. Rahman.
Another album is soon to be released by the same company featuring a song by Adnan Sami called Aa Eh Oh. The video with Kareena Kapoor, Fardeen Khan, Harbhajan Singh and Amitabh Bachchan is getting exclusive airplay in the Sony channels. Just in time for the start of the World Cup, these songs put us in the right mood to see India play and win.The unanimous message to Ganguly & Co seems to be, "All the best for the series, but don't you dare come back without the Cup." Khelo India, Khelo - aur Jeeto!
