Feeling stressed
|
Do not ignore signs of stress. Take steps to overcome it.
|
DO YOU ever experience grinding teeth, clenched fists, forgetfulness or irritability? Perhaps you have raised blood pressure, generalised anxiety, mood swings or rigid views? If so, you could be stresses.
Some stress is good for us it motivates us, makes us feel alive, and gives us the drive to succeed.
It gives the `get up and go' to get up and go! Other stress is debilitating, draining, and undermines our physical and emotional welfare.
That's the stress we need to worry about. Recent research shows the effects of stress are even more profound than imagined.
It can act like slow poison, altering our bodies and our brains as it accumulates.
If we don't do something about it, it can compound and damage our health and our relationships. It can prevent us from savouring life and put our physical and mental well-being at risk.
Forget the quick fixes, though: smoking, alcohol, over-eating, and caffeine.
They don't work long term.
What does? Enough exercise and a healthy diet are essential.
Meditation and relaxation training combat stress effectively. Managing your self-talk, yoga and counselling are other great ways to reduce stress.
