AURA, A furniture boutique that opened recently on Airport Road, has something unique for your home. While every other boutique sells imported contemporary furniture, Aura brings you imported furniture with the looks of period furniture, giving your home the perfect classical aura.
With all the furniture being made in mahogany or teak, Aura, promises you that each piece at the showroom is made in "solid wood".
"I personally make the selection of each piece here," says Amar Mangharam, proprietor of Aura. He travels extensively to South East Asia, picking up furniture from Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia, and knick-knacks from Iran, Bali etc. that complement the furniture at Aura. The furniture displayed here includes traditional carved pieces such as sideboards, wall racks, showcases, beds, sofa sets, and dining sets. There are also some unconventional sofa sets in teak wood and leather, which, though priced at Rs. 37,000, tempt you. While some of these use black leather, others are upholstered in tan and burgundy leather. Mr. Mangharam says: "All our furniture can be easily upholstered in India, unlike other sofa sets being sold in the market, where you would need the cloth to be die-cut." Almost all the sofa sets are priced in the range of Rs. 35,000 to Rs. 40,000, and one can choose to add in a centre table to match it. However, there are some altogether different sets from Philippines that beat this price. These are the rattan, cane, and banana fibre sets that are beautifully crafted in various shapes (round and square finish) and come with a centre table at a price of Rs. 45,000 to Rs. 55,000. Aura also has a range of tables, exquisitely designed to fold up in a different form and shape. They have compact breakfast tables (designed for two) with storage space for the breakfast tray and other things, foldable garden tables that come with benches (seating two) or single chairs, coffee tables for two, with carved chairs, a compact nest of tables that can be used around the house, corner tables, and centre tables in various styles. There are also some neat study tables in French and Victorian styles that can adorn your bedroom.
There are also neat packages for Rs. 65,000, covering everything that the bedroom might need.
At Aura one also sees a large range of curios, showpieces, and artefacts. It's quite apparent that there is something here for all likes and tastes. You could pick up a wooden carved motorcycle (Rs. 1,500), Iranian paintings (Rs. 3,500), Mother of Pearl serving bowls (Rs. 250), models of old ships, terracotta vases, rattan baskets, wood carvings from Bali — the list is goes on.
