Small-screen spectacle


With Vishu and Easter celebrations in full swing, the Malayalam channels have their own special festival menus. Each has lined up a few `superhit' films for the special occasion. The list, however, includes regular time-killers such as `phone-in' programmes, `chat shows', filmi interviews and film songs. The details of the TV programmes are as follows:

Asianet TV

The programmes on Vishu (April 15) begin at 5-30 a.m. with `Vishukani', which will be followed by, `Swararagam', a musical programme. The anchors of the morning show, `Suprabhatham', will talk about the importance of `Vishu'.

The talk show, `Prethyeka Abhimukham', featuring actress Kavya Madhavan will be followed by `Vellarikkappattanam', a comedy show. Nadir Shah's `Cinema Parody' comes next. Pop star Usha Uthup will be featured in the programme, `Vaalkkannadi'.

The programme, `Sangeethasagaram', will have veteran singer S. Janaki rendering some evergreen melodies - the special episode is titled `Sangeethavirunnu'.

Asianet Global will air special programmes such as `Vishu Pulari', a breakfast show. Various programmes featuring TV artistes will follow this. `Megamela', a special programme held in Kochi to celebrate Asianet's 10th anniversary, will also be telecast. Superhit Malayalam films will be screened.

Kairali TV

The Vishu programmes will start with a documentary on Mookambika. `Vishu Geethangal' will be followed by `Subhadinam', which will feature former Chief Minister, E. K. Nayanar, and his family. Actor Jayaram and wife Parvati talk to filmmaker Sibi Malayil in a talk show.

This will be followed by an interview with actor Kamal Hassan.

`Devadasi', a telefilm, focuses on the life of a devadasi girl, while `Sathyan Nite' has singers M.G. Sreekumar, Radhika Tilak and Asha Sathyan rendering the songs from Sathyan's films.

`Thenkasipattanam', starring Suresh Gopi, Samyukta Varma and Dileep will be telecast next.

An `exclusive' interview with A. R. Rahman will be accompanied with songs rendered by Srinivas, Sujatha, Chitra and Unni Menon.

Maundy Thursday

`Kamukara Musical Nite', a programme in memory of the late singer, Kamukara Purushothaman, will have songs sung by singers such as

S. Janaki, Krishnachandran, Biju Narayanan and Preetha.

The Mammootty-Geetha starrer, `Valsalyam', will follow the State Television Award (2002) winning telefilm, `December Mist', directed by Saji Surendran.

P. A. Sidhartha Menon, director, Kairali TV, will present `Bhoomigeetham', a programme on agriculture.

Good Friday

`Annie', directed by Viji Thampi, which won the State Television Awards, will be followed by `Salil Chowdhary Nite'. Antara Chowdhary, the daughter of the late Salil Chowdhary, will render some of his songs.

`Nirakootu', starring Mammootty and Sumalatha, will be followed by a documentary, `Chotta Mudhal Chudala Vare', on the life of R. K. Shekhar, A. R. Rahman's father.

Easter

Singer Unni Menon will be featured in `Symphony', to be followed by a chat with Vijay Jesudas. `Remyam', a telefilm on love and youth, is next. `Macabre', a telefilm, will be followed by the Mohanlal starrer, `Pavithram'. A telefilm, `Alavuddinum Aluminium Vilakkum', will come next.

Surya TV

The special programmes for `Vishu' include the following.

Actress Gowthami will be featured in a chat show titled `Gowthamiyumaayi Mukhamukham'.

News about Vishu releases and the details about the locations of shoot will be aired next. The `phone-in' programme, `Ishtamaanu', will be presented by actress Navya Nair. A special telefilm on the adivasi issue in the State will be followed by `Kavyam Madhuram', which will feature actress Kavya Madhavan in a chat show with anchor, Ranjit (of `Oorakudukku' fame).

The programme `Chronic Bachelor Speaking' will have the cinestars Rambha, Indraja, Mammootty, Mukesh, Fazil and Siddique participating in a talk show. `Kanikkonna Chirikyumbol' and Kanikaanum Neram' are the other special programmes lined up for telecast. Superhit films, `Narasimham' and `Karumaadikuttan', will also be aired.

Good Friday

Special programmes like `Praarthanageethangal' and `Pallimaikal' will be followed by filmmaker Sibi Malayil's chat show, `Thirakatha Visheshangal'.

A talk show titled `Souhrida Varthamanam' will feature director Bhadran and writer Balachandran Chullikaad.
