THEY SAID Stallone was just muscles until "Rambo" and its sequels happened. So was Schwarzenegger till "Terminator" made him the most popular action hero in the world.
Similarly, back home in Chennai, they said Vikram was a flash in the pan till "Gemini" and "Dhool" made him one of the top stars.
Now the big question is whether macho Vikram's May 1 release "Saamy" will skyrocket him to superstardom? "Saamy" is this year's hottest movie in trade circuit, and every exhibitor in Tamil Nadu was willing to pay an unheard of Minimum Guarantee (MG).
It is Vikram's first cop movie as he plays Saamy, Deputy Commissioner of Police in Tirunelveli, who gets rid of the `lumpen elements in society'.
Said Hari, director of the film, whose last release "Tamizh" was also a big hit: "When K. Balachander saw the first copy of the film he congratulated me for making a sparkling entertainer which he said will make ideal viewing for the entire family."
Heroine Trisha Krishnan's performance as Bhuvana, a Tirunelveli Iyer girl, is said to be another highlight of the film.
