Vijayendra Saraswathi addressing the youth
TODAY'S YOUTH reflect the changing face of the nation. They are more aware of what is happening across the globe. As a direct result of this increased consciousness, they tend to get influenced by the changes that take place, unmindful of the likely consequences in the future.
Delivering a speech on "Empowering the Youth of Today", organised by Sri Krishna Sweets in the city, Sri Vijayendra Saraswathi of the Kanchi Math said the youth must understand their responsibilities and never forget the basics. "There is nothing wrong in learning good things from others. But, they should try to develop their career by drawing inspiration from the success stories of Indians, instead of merely aping the West."
"In the name of culture, the youth involve themselves in many activities. As a result, a situation has arisen where their freedom needs to be regulated. But, it will not require severe restrictions."
The Acharya reminded the youth that success could be achieved by staying focused on their goals. "The youth must first believe in themselves but should not be complacent. If guided properly, they will be helpful in nation-building."
Stating that developments took place in all the fields, he stressed that "their (youth) thinking and attitude should change accordingly."
Emphasising the need to follow traditional values, he said the basics of leadership skills and group discussion come from the Indian joint family system.
Besides throwing open opportunities, the present scenario had also brought about a lot of challenges, he felt.
"In this competitive environment, the youth should try to do things in a creative manner. If they fail, growth will become difficult."
