A classy show for the masses...
THE UNIQUE point about the recently held fashion extravaganza by Globus was that instead of being held at a five-star hotel, it was choreographed with all the jazz at the amphitheatre of New Delhi's Ansal Plaza.
Globus, a retail store dealing in fashion apparel, thought that those who frequent shopping malls to buy the latest brands should get their money's worth by seeing models draped in the Spring Summer Collection-03.
The collection, titled, Rampage, was a blend of Indian and Western wear. The resplendent dresses were designed keeping in mind the youngsters and those young at heart. So in walked some top-notch models, actress-turned-model, Aditi Govtrikar, Joey Mathews, Apoorva Jha and Udita Goswami, in their best garb to show that they are quite capable of turning an insipid evening into an exciting event. The models - well aware that no corporate honchos or big buyers sat in the crowd - showed utmost professionalism and perseverance by sashaying on the ramp for more than one hour. The rostrum creaked with their long and heavy stilettos. But the crowd didn't mind as they hooted whenever some model with a smile on her face walked with long strides towards the end of the podium, where the shutterbugs had a field day.
The inspirations for coming out with mesmerising embellishments were nature and urban landscape. Stripes - a renaissance of fancy frills - gave way to crimson romance in frilled minis. From a floral extravaganza - playful florals in kaleidoscopic colours to freak fusion - the beauty of the dresses was accentuated by glittering gold spots, astute silver and Zorro black. The metallic brilliance had the touch of the `70s, which saw the departure of conventional clothes from department stores and introduction of the contemporary dresses.
In the end, choreographer Marc Robinson got a well-deserved applause for presenting the show with finesse.
