From nuclear physics to metaphysics
Thirteen years ago, young Rangacharya, an M.Sc. gold medallist in nuclear physics from Andhra University, who had become the manager of a nationalised bank, was suddenly smitten by the bug of spiritualism and realised the emptiness of materialistic living.
Like Prince Siddhartha of Kapilavastu, Rangacharya left his wife, son and the lucrative career, and roamed the length and breadth of the country, like Swami Vivekananda, for three years. At Srivilliputtur in Tamil Nadu, he renounced his worldly ways and turned Tridandi Sri Rangaramanuja Jeeyar Swami.
After spending two years in Santhi Ashram, he set up the Upanishad Siddhanthacharya Peetham and the Astakshari Ashram in G. Vemavaram, near Kakinada, with Sri Vaikunta Narayana Swami Perumal as the presiding deity.
As Jeeyar he conducted the first Pranaveshti in the port town in July 1995, followed by the Lakshmi Yagam in the port city of Visakhapatnam in December.
In 1997, the Jeeyar performed the Narayana Yagam in Visakhapatnam on a grand scale with a grand spectacle of Laksha Deeparadhana.
The Jeeyar undertook the Ashtakshari Deeksha, a self-imposed status of a recluse for over 13 months during which he locked himself up in his cottage with his idol. He did penance, with a gradually reducing intake of liquid food and abstaining from even that for over two months towards the close.
'Saranya', a Telugu devotional monthly, was launched by the Jeeyar in 1996. Subsequently he started Saranya Charities, Saranya Vedic School, Tapovanam and a get-well-soon health project for the leprosy-hit children.
Sri Rangaramanuja Jeeyar Swami went on a Bharata Parikrama recently visiting holy places, including the Satopath on the Himalayas. This was followed by a trip to Badarinath to conduct a 60-day Astakshari Deeksha.
The Jeeyar has trained 20 individuals in propagating `Divya Prabandham' and given `mantropadesam' to 400 sadhakas. His disciples are spread all over the country, particularly in the six Uttarandhra districts, Telangana and Chennai.
