Oka Raju Oka Rani... Mayuri Audio... Rs. 35
SOME ACTORS take a keen interest in the music in their films and thereby ensure that the movie has good music (and captivating lyrics), which becomes an instant hit with youngsters. And, Raviteja is one among them. With Chakri's music taking a front seat, the album makes for a good hearing. The mood for a romantic journey with melody is set with Swarala veena ee velalona, followed by Vennele neevani vekuve nenani and Kalalu Kantanu Nenu ee vela.
On the flip side, one gets to hear pleasant songs like Mannu tine chinnatanam kaadamma and Nidurinche ratirilo, apart from a mood melody Naa pranam naa gaanam. The album, Oka Raju Oka Rani, certainly deserves more than just one hearing.

Main Prem Ki Diwani Hoon... Saregama... Rs. 55
THIS IS a much-awaited venture from the Barjatyas. Sooraj Barjatya who delivered three hits in a row takes his own time to make movies. With the result they are released once in four-five years. Main Hoon Prem Ki Diwani Hoon follows Hum Saath Saath Hain after four years. Sooraj has roped in the trio of Hrithik, Kareena and Abhishek for this love story which is perhaps the first movie of the Barjatyas (Rajshri productions) shot in foreign locales. Anu Malik scores the music for all the 10 songs in the film. His attempt can be best described as slightly refreshing though it is certainly not his best.
The score has a youthful feel. There is a slight fusion in terms of the orchestration. Classical and symphonic occasionally used are blended into the regular tunes. The songs are pretty long in terms of length. The surprise element is Chitra, the singer from the South who comes back in a big way. She has sung practically every song barring two where Sunidhi Chauhan chips in. Chitra's mellifluous voice is able to captivate the listener more than the notes. She imparts a new zest to every song. KK matches with her in most of the numbers where he sings along with her. The only song which is repeated twice (thankfully) is O Ajnabi which has two versions a happy one where Chitra sings along with KK and the other a sad one where she renders a solo. The second has a `fusion' touch and sounds better.
The movie opens with a cheerful Chali aayee. Sanjana...I love you is a peppy one totally attuned to the youthful romance. Bhatke panchi borders on the classical. Ladka yeh kehta hai and Kasam ki kasam are just about average numbers. Sunidhi renders Papa ki Pari in her characteristic high-pitched husky voice and style. Shaan's Aur Mohabbat hai is the last number which has some good synthesisation.
Despite so many songs there is not one which registers or lingers in the mind after listening. They sound all right when they are heard but don't seem to be top-notch stuff.
Masoom Chehra... Venus... Rs. 38
SOMETIMES, ONE wonders if the music industry is doing pretty good business to download all those compilations on us during those dreary times. And, thanks to some music companies we are forced to listen to the same old numbers over and over again.
So, here comes another from Venus - titled Masoom Chehra, the album has songs from as old a movie as Aatish (Kaash tum mujhse) and Dillagi (Mein kya karoon) to Humraaz (Sanam mere humraaz) and of course, Masoom chehra from Talaash.
The other so-called popular numbers include Aankh hai bhari bhari (Tumse Achcha Kaun Hai), Der se hua and Pehli baar dil yeh (both from Hum Ho Gaye Aap Ke), Tum dil ki dhadkan mein (that oh-so-romantic number from Dhadkan), title song from Kahin Pyaar Na Ho Jaaye and Kismat ka to (Kismat).
Nice enough album for all those who lost track of the music scene with a lot of albums releasing every week.

American Life... Madonna... TIPS... Rs. 125
THE MATERIAL girl has taken up a sombre stand, one observes, as she presents her new compilation. You need to approach the album with an open mind removing the traces of Madonna you have heard earlier. This is a different incarnate of the diva techno, hip hop, rock and more diverse from Fever, La isla bonita and Take a bow, part of a predictable style you have heard earlier.
Music wise, the album is far from being labelled as a pop offering--the typical Papa don't preach style. Madonna has incorporated new age rhythm and varied styles for American Life. The title track shows a hip-hop influence, the next track Hollywood has a classic rock semblance and Mother and father a club feel about it. I'm so stupid is one for the rhythm. Some of the numbers to lend an ear are Love profusion and Nothing fails. The album also features the OST for Die Another Day.
