Sriman Sribhashyam Appalacharyulu, who attained `Vaikunta praapti' recently, belonged to the world that revelled in living for others with the conviction and hope that better times may prevail and best people may walk on the earth to usher in an era of peace, amity, contentment and, above all, continence.
The departed scholar has left behind a legacy, not mere inheritence, that goes to enrich thought-currents of philosophies and widen the gates of the minds of men at the helm of affairs.
He had been a unique example of sectional solidarity. All the three major systems of philosophy---Dwaita, Vishishtadwaita and Adwaita---found a cosy niche in his heart which assumed the form of a universal heart; he lived, preached and died as the acknowledged epitome of all living religions. For A.N. Whitehall, religion is a wide term encompassing all human thought. Religion transforms man to a living symbol of ethics, morals, sterling character and exemplary spartan conduct. The religious man has no specific religion.
Appalacharyulu lives, palpitates, reflects and echoes forever in the world that knew him. His humility, erudition, self-effacement and serenity collectively chose to flourish in their unalloyed pristine purity. He could be reckoned as equal to Hanumantha, the devotee without a second.
In his practical life and movement, he might have looked a Srivaishanava, committed to the letter and spirit of the holy term. Is there a place where Vishnu is absent? Will world hope to exist without Vishnu's support and prop? The true Vaishnava as he was, Appalacharyulu dismantled the synogogues and citadels of narrow sectarianism and compartmentalised outlook.
Rarely a personage of his superlative excellence brave to don the robe of a human being. Craving, greed, avarice, itch for fame,
malice and animosity dared never embrace him. Tolerance, temperance and love of all that is human in content and form marked his life spanning over 1,000 poornimas.
If we recall him, tears spontaneously gush, fountain and spring, like the waters Arjuna's arrow could draw from the fathomless depths of Mother Earth. We mourn Appalacharyulu's loss for long. Will there ever a man be born to replace him to repair the loss outward and inward? It will be a day dream!
