Police story

AFTER SIVAJI Ganesan's classic "Thangapathakkam", it is Vikram's "Saamy" that is being appreciated by policemen in Tamil Nadu. Said a beaming Vikram who had put on weight (8 kg) to don the role of Aaruchaamy, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Tirunelveli: "Ever since "Saamy" was released, policemen come up to me and rave about my performance in the film. All of them unanimously say that no film has shown the department in a positive light in recent times as "Saamy"."

Vikram, who is busy shooting for "Pitamagan" in Theni, said that along with Hari, the director of the film, he had done thorough research and gone through hundreds of newspaper reports before finalising the character of Aaruchaamy. Vikram added that it was a conscientious decision to make the cops in the film look sincere and upright, which worked with the masses.
