Mobile pet clinic

HAVE YOU always found it difficult to take your ailing pet to a vet? You needn't worry any more. A 24-hour mobile veterinary clinic has been launched in the city.

Ananthapuriyil, claimed to be the first of its kind in the State, was flagged off on July 15, by the Information Minister, M. M. Hassan.

The clinic, a van, has state-of-the-art equipment, and can even conduct minor operations.

"The mobile hospital has life-saving drugs, surgical kits, immunising vaccines and other essentials," says Bindu Vinodkumar, the managing director. "We have two veterinary doctors, for every mission," she adds.

The management plans to widen the area of operation of the clinic. But at present, it will function only within the city limits. "Since the flag-off, we have had at least 75 distress calls from within the city," says Dr. Harikrishnan, the co-ordinator.

The medical services include vaccination for dogs and cats, treatment for pet birds and domestic animals, artificial insemination for cows and buffaloes, sterilisation (desexing) of cats and dogs, a mobile laboratory, free telephonic advise, medication and therapy in case of snakebites and other poisoning in animals and birds.

Cosmetic surgeries are also on offer. "Customers can avail of the services provided by a `pet beautician'. The facilities include regular bathing, shampooing, hair cutting, conditioning, pedicure, manicure, flea treatment and dental scaling for pets," says Bindu Vinodkumar.

The management also plans to open branches of Ananthapuriyil at other places in the State.

"Right now, the focus is on the capital city," says Harikrishnan. "We also plan to organise camps, to which people can bring their pets and domestic animals for a general check-up," says the managing director.

The hospital office is at Ulloor, and can be contacted at 94472 06413, 98472 94339 and 94474 28597; e-mail: vetboy1970@ rediffmail.com.
