Police story

Surya in "Kaakha Kaakha"

ONE OF the most eagerly awaited Tamil films of the year releasing this Friday is Gautam Menon's "Kaakha Kaakha". The film has grabbed a lot of attention due to its slick production and style of presentation. It is about Anbuselvan, an honest and upright Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) played by Surya, who is a sort of an encounter specialist who tracks down and eliminates drug peddlers.

For Gautam Menon who earlier made that musical mega hit "Minnale" it is a change of genre as "Kaakha Kaakha" is a more realistic film, which takes a peek at the duties of a police officer. Menon says: "There are no corrupt police officers in the film which will show the human side of an officer." Jyothika plays the role of a teacher who loves Anbuselvan but he tries to avoid her by convincing her that life will not be safe with him. But she takes the risk and marries him; the story then takes a new twist. The other highlights of the film are the music of Harris Jayaraj, which is already topping the charts and the riveting performance of Jeeva who plays the villain. The character of Surya is said to be based on John Matthew Mathan's "Sarfarosh" where Aamir Khan played the tough police officer. Even before its release "Kaakha Kaakha" has created a stir in the trade as its remake rights in Telugu have been sold at a record price. The film is touted to be Surya's stepping stone to superstardom, and producer Thanu is releasing the film himself in most of the areas with over 100 prints.
