Collage of creativity

Collage, an exhibition of designer outfits, will be held at The Jidoka Store, on August 1 and 2.

FOURTEEN DESIGNERS from across the country with some of their interesting collections under one roof. Doesn't that sound like a shopper's delight! Latha Madhu is organising a two-day exhibition of designer outfits for women. The collection is aptly named "Collage" as a set of kurti and trouser by a designer will have an interesting combination of work — sleeves with Banares zari and the borders of the kurti and the trouser embellished with sequined Kutch embroidery.

Kurtis and trousers with intricate work, Samundhar lahiri kurtis from Jodhpur, Kutch work kurtis, tie and dye dupattas to go with the suits and other evening wear comprise the collection of Mayura Kumar, a Delhi-based designer.

Yamini Reddy's kurtis in chiffon, linen and georgette with minimal embellishment are ideal for eveningwear. Crushed, shaded and bandini kurtis also form part of her collection. The hand painted kurtis in natural fibre by `Oommeedd' are interesting.

"The collection here would suit both the adventurous and the not so adventurous." In-house designers Barometre also showcased their collections. The exhibition also has sequined trousers and banana fibre bags with Kashmiri work by Shruthika and footwear to match the attire by Plum Tree.

There is also an array of 18-carat gold and silver studded jewellery by Bharathi Raviprakash of Studio Tara. "Diamonds, aquamarines, sapphires and emeralds are some of the stones I have used. I have brought these pieces keeping Chennai-ites in mind, using less of bigger stones and more of gold and silver." The price of the jewellery ranges from Rs. 5000 to Rs. 5 lakhs. "The idea is to help people get a whole collection right from jewellery to footwear at one go." The price of the garments ranges from Rs. 500 to Rs. 3,000. The exhibition will be held at The Jidoka Store, Nungambakkam on August 1 and 2. For more information, contact 31013856.
