`Great men were children one day - Children can be great men some day' was the theme of the 3rd annual day celebration at Sri Prakash Vidyaniketan, which they celebrated amidst much fanfare on Friday at Gurzada Kalashetram. The creative theme and the title of the annual day, `Aroma- the fragrance of celebration-2004' were developed by the young creative minds of the school. Not only that they also put up an educative science and creative arts exhibition at the venue.
National integration with patriotic touch dominated the cultural programmes that were staged by the students of the school in the evening. The students were addressed by quite a few eminent citizens of the city like, Chairman and Managing Director of Visakhaptnam Steel Plant, B.K. Panda; Managing Director of Dolphin Milk, M. Appa Rao; industrialist, K. Kesava Rao, District Education Officer, R. Surendra Reddy and Principal of Hindustan Zinc School, K.S. Anand.

A cultural show consisting of various depicting Indian culture and spirituality and Sarva Dharma, presented by the students was the highlight of the 19th annual day celebrations of Sri Sathya Sai Vidya Vihar, M.V.P. Colony, held on the school premises last week. The participants in the musical drama `Bhakta Ramadasa' and Harry Potter's story in the form of `Bolt of fame' impressed the audience with their fine performance. The Thai-Chi dance `Prem Iswar Hei' and `Saamethala Saaradhi', a humourous scene from the Mahabharata and the concluding item `Natya jhari' kept the gathering glued to their seats.

The convenor of Sri Sathya Sai Trust (AP), A. Ranga Rao, who participated as chief guest at the valedictory function, said that value education with a stress on human values was the need of the day and added that the Sri Satya Sai educational institutions not only in India but also across the globe have become forerunners of a cultural renaissance. Earlier, in the day, he inaugurated the basket ball court and a shuttle court in the school, which were newly laid.
The school convenor and district president of Sri Satya Sai Organisation, G.K.P. Mukunda Rao, said "Love is the first language, discipline is the medium of instruction, devotion and service are the second language at the school." The principal, A. Kausalya, briefed about the achievements of the school both academic and extra curricular. Sneha Maroo, the top scorer in Std. X ahd won four gold medals. Cash awards were presented to 16 other meritorious students.
The governing body members, Prof. V.R. Reddy, NRS Prasada Rao, S.G. Chalam and D.S.N. Murthy, were present.

The Don Bosco School, Akkayyapalem, celebrated its 15th anniversary at Kalabharathi auditorium last week. The tiny tots of the school presented colourful dances which were marked by grace and precision in footwork. A small play depicting national integration was a special attraction. The students also displayed their skills in martial arts with their karate fights.

D. Pavitra, a Std. I pupil in her welcome address, appealed to her fellow students and parents not to ignore Telugu language while studying in an English medium school. The Police Commissioner, B. Prasada Rao, who participated as chief guest, asserted that hard work by students and cooperation of parents would go a long way in moulding children into responsible citizens of tomorrow.
An Assistant Professor in Andhra University, Sridevi, advised parents to spot the latent talents among their children and encourage them in nurturing their skills in that direction. The principal of V.T. College, P.N. Rao, the Don Bosco principal, Vijayalakshmi, spoke.
The sales manager of ICICI, Vinod Sharma, gave away prizes to the winners of various competitions held in connection with the annual day.

An inter-school quiz competition was organised by the Coast Guard as part of its recent Coast Guard week celebrations. Students of 10 schools vied for the rolling shield. S. Varun Deep and Gautham Ambekar (both from Std. IX in Visakha Valley School) were the winners of the rolling trophy. The first runner-up was Eshan Chattopadhyay and Ramana Murthy (both Std. IX of Delhi Public School) and the second runner-up was Ratna Deepika and K. Cherysh (Std. IX of Timpany School).

A cultural bonanza beginning with a devotional song and dance on the glory of Sri Sai Charitra followed by a variety of other shows depicting patriotism, human values and cultural heritage of our nation marked the 20th annual day celebrations of Little Angels School, MVP Colony, last week. The District Collector, Sunil Sharma, who participated as chief guest, hailed the performance of the school in imparting quality education and stressed on the need for good parental care for the overall growth of children.

The Naval KG School, Nausena Baugh celebrated its annual sports day on Friday. Over 300 children of the LKG and UKG participated in various group and track events and won the appreciation of a large gathering of parents. Commodore SPR Reddy, Commanding Officer INS Circars, participated as chief guest on the occasion. Capt. H.S. Bhakta Vatsala, chairman of the Naval Public School, Meenakshi Rao, headmistress were present.

Padma Priya Sahu (Std. VIII) of Olivet School bagged a gold medal at the 49th National School Games Championship held in Kakinada recently. She bagged the gold medal for roller skating in the rink II event and the bronze medal in the rink I event. Her sister, Shanti Priya Sahu, of Std. VI, was awarded a silver medal in rink I event, according to the school principal, Sunita Nair.
