Contemporary & classic

Blending tradition with latest designs makes the house of Madhusudan and Kavitha standout, says Harjeet Kaur Allagh

Meditation has provided real solace to my once agitated soul Kavitha

A true blend of contemporary and traditional interior can be found in Madhusudhan Reddy and Kavita's home. Located in the busy Suryaraopet, the house is on the first floor, while the ground floor houses a hospital.

The main entrance has traditional toranalu hanging from it. The huge hall has two seating areas. One is very formal with the sofas in sober, earth colour furnishing. The center table has a crystal vase with fuchsia pink flowers. Lightening the ambience are the curtains in moonlight white with olive green roses lending a spring-like atmosphere.

Kavitha's love for nature is amply displayed in all the flower themes in the home. The curtains have thick flower strings hanging from them. An entire wall is covered by a rosewood cabinet that is filled chock-a-block with porcelain and bone china dolls. Victorian paintings and wall hangings adorn the walls.

The other seating area has a contemporary sofa that is simple but chic. The small glass table has bamboo shoot placed on it. Bamboos are very sturdy plants and grow easily and maybe that is why they denote good health and prosperity.

Airy dining room

The unique concept in the house is that the dining and the kitchen are combined in to one big airy room. The dining table is of rosewood, but the bright coloured place mats and bowl of mangoes, brightens it up. Kavita gets to serve warm food from the oven straight on to the platter.

The puja room is used extensively as Kavita has grown to be a very spiritual person, a Yogada satsang member and has satsangs at her home on every Friday. She is very much into the art of meditation. Kavita says: "Meditation has provided real solace to my once agitated soul."

Comfortable

The master bedroom is comfortable and colourful. A flowery-designed bedspread and a flower-printed cover on the computer display Kavita's love for flowers. The drapes in the room are in ivory colour with lacy interjections in chocolate brown colour.

Madhusudhan likes to play shuttle badminton for his fitness. He likes channel-surfing in the T.V and loves to travel.

Most of the items in the home have been collected during their various trips abroad and all over India. Indian art and western curios create a harmonious blend of Indo-western fusion.

Grandma's affection

The head of the home is Mangamma; mother of Madhusudhan. Her room is typical of all aged people who want all their things at an arm's reach.

She is otherwise active and loves to cook for her family. Her grandsons love her dearly and like to snuggle up in her room.

Sandeep and Sampreet's room is quite sober and classic, unlike the boisterous youth of today.

Their bed is carved and the room is full of books, the only concession being the poster of the Indian cricket team above the bed.

For, Sampreet is a keen follower of the game. He likes to take an occasional dip in the pool too and is a die-hard fan of Pavan Kalyan. He has just completed his graduation.

Sandeep is doing his M.Sc in the U.K.
