Crystal clear design

Collectibles needn't just be showcase companions

PRICEY PETS Swarovski now adds some interesting animals to its catalogue PHOTO: SAMPATH KUMAR G.P.

"Darling, put more shimmer around your eyes." Conversation between uptown stylers Joe and Harry. No, they're not the latest drag queens to hit the Page Three circuit, but two cute little crystal mice, part of Swarovski's latest collection pricey gewgaws. The Lovlots range features nine animals, each with its own name and an opening line. For example, Shina the naughty snail has this profound conclusion: "Living without art is like salty chocolate."

Wondering what these glitzy animals are up to? It's `crystal' clear! Swarovski, the leading brand for cut crystal, jewellery stones, lighting products, home accessories and collectibles, has now roped in animals for its latest crystalline moulds to add more dazzle to the lives of those with really deep pockets.

To celebrate the occasion, fashion guru Prasad Bidapa, on behalf of the Austrian company, led the anthropomorphic figurines to an Evening of Friendship at the Olive Beach, where the glittering range had tales of extravagance and romance swirling around them.

Celebrating the Lovlots' friendship theme, Bidapa invited on stage nine pairs of friends from the invitees for a fun-filled interactive session. "The arrival of these whimsical characters is guaranteed to clinch the heart of every aficionado... Each member of the eccentric animal family is designed as an amusing character which throws about some crazy and outrageous temperament." The occasion saw the Lovlots concept being described as the French word decale, meaning `upside down'. And considering they are not meant to be just confined in showcases, you will soon see them hanging from belts, bags, jeans, cellphones and as charms.
