Caiman comes to India

Armies across the world have used them. The French are said to be partial to them. And Sharjah has their factory. Now, Indians can walk in them too as Caiman, an Italian footwear brand, has made its foray into India. REPL Worldwide, a part of the Rahman Group, a player in the Indian leather industry for the last 40 years, has brought the brand to the country. The company's Chief Operating Officer, P.C. Khanduri says, "Each pair of Caiman shoes is made from the finest quality leather like goat, buffalo and sheep leather." Its range of shoes includes formal, semi-formal, casual and funky party wear in different colours and designs for both men and women.

Khanduri says, "Our target is to attract the urban middle class consumers, mainly the youth and professionals in the age group of 18-50 years." The footwear is priced from Rs.995 to 7995 for men and from Rs.795 to 4995 for women. At present, it has only one showroom at the Shipra Mall in Indirapuram.

"We have a plan to open four outlets a year though," adds Khanduri. He says the company has plans to make shoelaces, belts, handbags too. Though Caiman has an office in France, its factory is in Sharjah. It is also known as Safetix in the international market and specialises in making boots for armies.
