SPREADING OUTWARDS Nrutarutya has travelled far and wide to propagate Indian contemporary dance
Amidst all the cultural imports that have been coming our way from the West, here's one that's flowing the other way. Nritarutya Dance Collective, the contemporary dance company, is performing a series of workshops, lecture demonstrations, choreography sessions and performances all around the U.S. between August 30 and September 16.
Four company choreographers and dancers of Nrutarutya — Mayuri Upadhya, Sathyanarayan B.G., Madhuri Upadhya and Geetha Ballal — will be visiting a series of venues including Maryland, Chicago, Washington D.C., New York, Texas, California, Virginia and Philadelphia.
For those interested in pursuing an interest in contemporary dance here in Bangalore, the six-year-old dance company conducts classes for adults and children at Energy Gym on Jasma Bhavan Road and in Jayanagar 4th Block. Classes for adults are conducted on Saturdays between 3 p.m. and 4 p.m. and on Sundays between 11 a.m. and 12.30 p.m., while those for children between 8 and 15 years take place on Saturdays between 12.45 p.m. and 2.30 p.m. Contact 9945197349 for details or log on to www.nritarutya.com.
