That feather touch!

Falguni and Shane Peacock can afford to pick and choose what they do

DESIGNER DUO Falguni and Shane Peacock

`We design for the society woman. Working women are not something we are looking at,' declares Falguni of the Falguni and Shane Peacock label.

The two, showcasing theirSpring-Summer-07 collection at the Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week in New Delhi, can afford to pick and choose.

After all they are among the few Indian designers retailing from Harrods, London. "We are looking only at the international market this time, particularly stores in Milan and Paris."

Fashion week

The Mumbai-based designers are back to the FDCI's fashion week after missing out the Fall-Winter edition of WIFW for Lakme Fashion Week.

"It was for personal reasons. Shane's father was not well, so we thought it would be more prudent to showcase in the hometown. It didn't affect us from the commercial point of view, but we believe FDCI is the stronger body, so we are back in Delhi," reasons Falguni.

Mexican influence

Calling her collection eclectic, Falguni says they have tried to create a psychedelic look with the hints of 1970s and `80s. "There is a Mexican influence as well. There are animal prints and jewellery patches to accentuate the mystery effect." She says the collection comprises mostly slip dresses, kaftans, balloon skirts and a few ponchos - which have been their unique selling point for long.

The highlight of the show is going to be the unique make-up of the models. "We have used lots of long chains and diamonds as accessories. Then Swarovski crystals have been used for make-up around the eye. There is ample use of black lace in the collection. To complement that we have used the same lace around the eye, creating a sort of embroidery on the eye. Completing the look are ostrich feathers."

In one word, Falguni calls it `edgy'. So are the promotion pictures, which seem to concentrate more on film actress Priyanka Chopra's figure rather than the creations. It may seem otherwise to many, but Falguni describes it as, "touch me not look."

"Our promotion has always been like this. We make clothes for women who want to pamper themselves all day. We didn't want the pictures to portray Priyanka the actress." Would we see Priyanka this evening on the ramp? Anybody's guess!
