Lola Kutty celebrates Onam away from God's Own Country
|
WISECRACKS ALL THE WAY Lola Kutty
She is one chilled-out chica on the tube who serves a generous slice of humour and coconut water to her celebrity guests. Can that get any cooler? With a fan following in Bahrain and the U.K. alike, Lola Kutty is the desi diva responsible for perking up the TRP. Her immaculate English is heard for a moment when she says "give me a second." She then steps out of the studio to roll out in her strong south Kottayam accent `one minute pleez' and proceeds to talk about Onam festivities.
"I just returned from Kerala. I celebrated Onam yearly (early) with my parents. I want leave to go to Kerala for the festival but Channel [V] yis (is) not geaving (giving) me leave," she says, promising to look smashing in a Kanchivaram for the event. And added to her mallipoo, this time, will be a few sparklers. "My brother promised to buy me a piece of jewellery. Diamond yis a girl's best friend. I will dress up really trendy you see."
Why would she still stick to the traditional fare? "My mother used to tell me that I have nice legs. But that does not mean I must show them, no," she thinks aloud.
One thing Lola is going to miss for Onam, she says, is the cuisine from God's Own Country. "Kerala food is a rare pheno-menon in Mumbai. I live with my uncle and aunty and they have a Maharashtrian cook. Unfortunately, I will be missing the traditional cuisine," she says. Meanwhile, Lola will greet her guest with banana chips and coconut water on Lola TV but on the anvil is more Lola Kutty.
"Next I will be working from the roads. The channel people say they haeve no money to record me in a studio. The show will be titled Lolling with Lola where I will be interviewing celebrities on the road only," she says.
A veejay celebrity, one can look forward to a traffic-stopping jig from her on the street. Basking in her laurels so far (she received rave reviews for the recent and first edition of Chronicle of Lola the VJ, the Woman and the Wisecrack), the girl of coconut gyan, quirky fashion and wacky one-liners says, "The response to the Lola notebook was overwhelming. When people say, `Lola, Please autograph', I feel like Aishwarya Rai," she sums up. And all we can say is, "Keep the good work going!"
