STYLISH The display is eye catching
It was our own Ashwini Nachappa, who gave a glamorous start to The Hindu-MetroPlus Lifestyle Show at Palace Grounds.
The roomy expanse has a surprise for visitors: rare, black-and-white pictures from The Hindu archives that capture several eras in every aspect of history, right from politics to human interest to sports. Mahatma Gandhi leading the Dandi March, Annie Besant arriving at the House of Commons, Olympic golds: the pictures narrate stories that shaped humanity.
"It's not so much the business itself, we want to get closer to people," says Manickavasagam, partner of RMKV Silks, as he reasoned on why they decided to ship a huge weaving unit from Kanchipuram. "We will complete the Cinderella pavadai before the show comes to an end," says the silk man, who also has contests at his stall.
There are recliners and sofa beds one can sink into and a wide array of flooring material at Cosmo wooden floors. Bally ceramics has contemporary washbowls and fancy tap designs that spell contemporary. While Faber and Gilma have switched on their smart kitchen makers, just over there are spiffy beanbags to relax in.
Newer definitions and room concepts take root for new-age kids at the Child Space stall, what with a bunk bed, wardrobe, study table, pencil stand and side table grouped together for Rs. 75,000. Power Sport mobikes, series of infotainment CDs at IT Shop Buzzers and Apple Tree, and Fire Box Station Bikes are bound to capture young people's imagination.
There are decorative marble and ceramic pieces at Simply Art, and exquisite teak at Eeshaanya.
Tripping over messy cords hanging around at home? Check out the neat Krishtech multi-cord binder at Krishna Impex that gets all the loose wires together very aesthetically. The automobile section has new models of Santro and Getz from Advaith Motors on display while the car accessories assortment at Xenos Technologies can put you into a tizzy. And should you want to take a breather, try the unbeatable massage chairs that revive your tired muscles before you head to the food counters.
