How will you know when you have an intuition? According to intuition expert and the author of "Ting, a Surprising Way to Listen to Intuition and do Business Better", Arupa Tesolin, you will hear the sound Ting! In her words, "Ting is the sound of intuition striking an open mind." The book released by Wisdom Tree in the Capital the other day is recommended for organisations and people who are increasingly becoming aware and curious about the power of intuition in their lives and workplace.
Ting presents a business case in a workplace, where a young professional undergoes a process of intuitive discovery as he begins to work with his mentor. "Ting brings the wonder of everyday intuition within the reach of people by showing what happens when people use intuition as a more reliable source of information," she says. "The purpose of the book is to bridge gaps between intuition and business so that people can actually start using it. If intuition is a business
value generator, Ting is the doorbell," she adds.
Arupa's name is also based on an intuition, which she had when she was seven years old.
"Arupa is the Sanskrit for beyond form. My real name was Linda, but I was never comfortable with it. At the age of seven, I had a revelation that my name will start with an A end with an A and will have three syllables. That's Arupa. Arupa also means transcendent vision of the third dimension, and that's intuition."
After working as a senior manager with the Ontario Government, Arupa decided it was time for a change. She took a break from work and opened her company Intuita in 1996. "I went through the process about 10 years ago. It happened to me without volition. I had a sensation of fainting, then being put to sleep as the energy field around me put the information forward. I did not know where it was leading. Then I had an insight, which gave me what I wanted. I later realised the
value of writing it all down. And it then became my mission to share intuition development with others," says she.
Indian advantage
She believes that people in India are more intuitive because of their spiritual upbringing, but they don't use the same in their working life. "There is nothing to be ashamed of in intuition." Her theory is also based on a research published in the Harvard Business Review.
"Many CEOs and senior executives were interviewed and it was found out that when it comes to taking important decisions, they rely on their intuition but nobody admits it. People have to understand that there are many advantages of using intuition - there is no stress, you are happy, innovative and more creative."
So what should we do to hone our intuition?
"Just practice doing nothing for five minutes because when the mind is empty, ideas automatically flow in. Practice awareness for 10 minutes. Look for opportunities. Learn the difference between a memory and an intuition. Meditation is the hygiene for your spirit. Meditate for 10 minutes every day. Intuition comes from experiences, start evaluating them."
