Music time D.Js rake in the moolah with their spinning power

Come December 31 and it’s time for everyone to put on their party shoes and dance to the music of these modern pied pipers who ring in the New Year. It’s also time for DJs to pull all stops to make their New Year’s party all that more magical. A DJ who is new to the trade can make anything from Rs. 50,000 to one-and-a-half lakh on a New Year’s party. The bigger names, however, make an impressive five to six lakh rupees. Pretty nice remuneration for making people dance all night! “How much a DJ earns depends on how well established he is, where he plays and how good he is,” explains DJ Umar.

This New Year’s eve, the city has an impressive array of parties and an equally impressive line up of DJs who promise to keep the party alive well into the New Year’s morning. Heading the supposed crème-de-la-crème of parties, is the party at HICC – One Alliance in association with F-Bar. The massive dance floor at HICC, will have the likes of VJ Pia Trivedi, DJs Freeze, Nasha and Raghav thrilling audiences with a variety of programmes.

‘Reverb’, at ITC Kakatiya is being held in association with the ‘Ministry of Sound’, London and will have popular entertainers from around the globe. Says DJ Murthy from the Reverb party: “We wanted ours to be a night to remember, so we’ve come up with some thing slightly different this year. We’ll have two different dance floors catering to different dance tastes”. At Dublin and DJ Umar will spin out Bollywood hits. While at Hyder Mahal, DJs Oliver and Murthy will play house and other electrifying stuff.

Some DJs prefer to be playing for more private, exclusive parties. “I’ve been playing for a particular private party for 10 years now and that’s where I’ll be this year too,” says DJ Ajay. Clubbers at Secunderabad Club will have a live performance by vocalist Mansi Scott and groove to retro beats spun by DJ Anant. DJ Yogi and Shashank will spin the night away at Touch. “This time, I’ll play it by ear, see what kind of crowd I have and then decide what kind of music to pump out,” says DJ Yogi.

At Taj Krishna, the theme for the party is a Rio like carnival, which will brighten the night at the grand ball room, where South African DJ, Stephan Galleti and a host of dancers from Mauritius will usher in the New Year. Speaking of carnivals, the annual carnival at Goa is in full swing and set to reach its peak tonight. “I’m having a blast playing here for the third consecutive year,” raves DJ Piyush, who’s jockeying at a resort on Goa’s Baaga beach. So there you have it, from the turn tables of the disc jockeys: Happy New Year, with a blast!
