Though many NGOs are working for the cause of children, recently Deepalaya has earned some fame.

It has been working for the cause of underprivileged children since 1979. Just recently, it compiled a few stories of “successful transformation” of the children in a book.

This book tells the story of these underprivileged children, who went through Deepalaya’s Reach India programme — DRIP.

The book, titled “Blossoms from the Dust”, was launched by environmentalist R.K Pachauri at the India International Centre recently.

On the occasion, Pachauri said that though the Government is making good policies for schools, including mid-day meals, they don’t get implemented.

There are also reports of corruption in implementing them.

Moreover, he said, “The absence of good libraries and trained teachers, bad pay packets worsen conditions. That’s why public schools are giving better results than government schools. Because the government schools are doing badly, the NGOs should be allowed to run these schools.”
