Iron Maiden

From the captivating and haunting lonely guitar intro to the end, this song just oozes passion and intensity. The lyrics were inspired by the First World War battle of Passchendaele. The song alternates between loud and soft dynamics reflecting life in the trenches, representing fighting and boredom, and was the brain child of long time guitarist Adrian Smith. The song is 8.26 minutes long and comprises two guitar solo sections, heavy riffs and fantastic orchestrated passages along with Bruce Dickinson’s powerful vocals. This is one of Maiden’s finest and my personal favourite. An epic.
