Music MattersWe see umpteen banners at the kutcheri venues with the names of sponsors. Instead of just publicising their product or activity on a bland piece of cloth, why can't they be imaginative and create special banners for the music and dance ... Brilliant violin duet Responses to the music season from a cross-section of the audience Good ambience Responses to the music season from a cross-section of the audience Well conducted Responses to the music season from a cross-section of the audience Nice break Responses to the music season from a cross-section of the audience Adieu Responses to the music season from a cross-section of the audience Starting young Responses to the music season from a cross-section of the audience
Artistic excellence Padmavathy Ananthagopalan and Jayanthi Kumaresh presented a veena duet full of aesthetic sensitivity. Vintage Ariyakkudi Making an impression on the audience, B. Rajam Iyer unleashed his guru 's favourites. Rakti ragas handled sensitively Both Sikkil Gurucharan and R. Suryaprakash impressed with their efficient raga delineation. Academy ushers in the New Year The year 2006 was rung in with a grand midnight spectacle. In chaste Lalgudi style Jayaraman's concert, with support from son Krishnan, was proof of his reverence for classicism. Soundaravalli and Dharmapuram Swaminathan sang. In control of laya Aishwarya has many plusus to her credit but needs to work on her voice. Voila... it's the violin Vocal, Western, Carnatic... the concert by Ganesh and Kumaresh was all about variety.
Classy cocktail Malavika treated the audience to great dance but was it Bharatanatyam? Joy to behold Lakshman's calm, strong abhinaya flowed from within and his nritta was well executed. Well conceived and imaginative Nrityopasana's thematic presentation on the elements of nature was moving. Eloquent eyes, expressive face Gopika Varma held audience attention even while adopting a quiet, almost under-played, approach. Instructive and entertaining Krishnakumari took the content beyond mere story telling in "Sri Maha Ganapathi." |
