Unforgettable Aman

A man was three weeks old when we brought it home from my mother's colleague. Aman was a beautiful fawn coloured Labrador. It had a sister which was black. They were born on November 11, 2000.

Aman was very naughty. It used to chew everything from table and chair legs to shoes. Sometimes when no one was around and food was on the table it would gobble it up. When the food was out of its reach it would cleverly draw it towards it with one paw.

One morning when my mother had taken it on its usual walk, a Gulmohar tree suddenly fell right in front of them. There was a loud crash and Aman got so scared that it ran all the way home. At meal times it would sit by us and watch without blinking its eyes, its nose twitching in the air. It would look so pitiful that we had to give it titbits every now and then.

When it was a year old it underwent training and turned out to be a well-behaved dog. But by the time it was two years old it suffered from kidney failure and died. Everyone at home was upset because they loved it dearly.

Before we bought Aman, I was very scared of dogs. Aman helped me to get over my fear of dogs. It's nearly five months since Aman died and yet we miss it a lot.
