A class apart

The most common thing that we notice in Indian streets is begging. Is it because we are a poor, developing nation? Begging is also seen in the U.S. but it is begging with a difference. My grandfather was sharing with me an incident, which took place on his trip to the U.S..

He said that once he came across a beggar, who did not stretch out his hands to beg. He just dropped a pen before my grandfather, to which was attached a card. The card read that he was a poor man, with two children. His wife had passed away and worst of all, he was aurally challenged. In the card he requested my grandfather to buy the pen for three dollars. Touched by his misery, my grandfather bought it and went away. When I heard this from my grandfather I was very touched.
