Moments of disbelief and delight
It was with a sense of disbelief that I heard my name being proposed for the coveted post of school head girl. Did I have it in me to lead? Would I measure up to the standards of NVN If I won? Questions galore crowded my mind as I campaigned for the mandate. The announcement that I won came as a sweet surprise and I was proud of the honour that the school bestowed on me.
After the initial euphoria, I sat down to understand my duties and responsibilities and decide that I would lead from the front by setting an example. The day of the investiture ceremony was a thrilling experience.
Working as the head girl, I have realised that being a leader is not at all an easy job. Fulfilling the role of a supportive and understanding senior to a distressed junior, an encouraging colleague to friends, a responsible head girl to the teachers and a competitive student in the class is not an easy task. It made me wonder how the P.M. of our country or the C.M. of our State runs a gigantic administration with so many responsibilities. It was an inspiring revelation that there is one thing common to the President of the U.S., the Prime Minister of India and the head girl of Nalanda the same 24 hours in a day!
The responsibility of being the head girl has taught me the value of time. It has also taught me that decisions have to be taken no matter whether they are pleasant or unpleasant. I have also learnt that no one can please everyone all the time.
Organising Teacher's Day was an enriching experience and an unforgettable challenge in my life. It gave me invaluable experience of planning, organising and decision-making. Above all, it even gave me an immeasurable satisfaction of sincere efforts being rewarded in the form of a task well accomplished. The memory of it will remain etched in my memory forever.
I look forward to more such occasions of wonderful, rewarding and rich experiences.
