My pilgrimage to the north
I wish to pen down a few lines about my trip to north in May, 2000. I reached Bhubaneswar, the capital of Orissa by the East Coast Express. There I visited some famous temples. The very next day I visited world famous locations like Puri and Konark. The beauty of those places can only be experienced and not described. I am really fascinated by the architectural richness of those ancient structures. I doubt if we can dream of such wonders, even in this present advanced era.
From Orissa in the second leg of my tour, I started for Varanasi, the spiritual capital of India. It's culture, sacredness and spirituality in undeniable. Varanasi is situated on the banks of the sacred Ganges. It is full of so many ghats that are built in the memories of various Rajahs. The main attraction of Varanasi is the temple of Lord Viswanath. This place is sacred for Hindus.
I also availed of this opportunity to make short trips to places like Allahabad and Ayodhya. I look forward to visiting many places in future also. Then I proceeded to Haridwar and Rishikesh. There I had holy dip in the Ganga, visited many attractive temples and met different personalities of various religions. Rishikesh is only a few miles from Haridwar. Both are located close to each other.
I also visited Dehradun and Mussoorie. There I really enjoyed the coolness of the climate and pleasantness of its natural beauty. I think it is as a paradise on earth. But for a moment, I was a little scared seeing our bus negotiating dangerous snake-like curves on the ghat road. Indeed, it was a memorable experience.
In New Delhi, I went sightseeing and visited Birla Mandir, Raj Ghat, Qutub Minar, Jantar Mantar, Red Fort, Rashtrapathi Bhavan and Parliament House. I learnt so many historical facts at these places and was determined to share this information with friends and relatives.
It was indeed a useful, informative and memorable trip and I look forward to making such trips in the future.
