Connecting people

The newspaper is a means of bringing people together and to bring us into contact with the world outside. By spending a few rupees we get to know what is happening around the globe, about countries that most of us cannot afford to visit.

The newspaper provides us with up-to-date information about important political events and topics of general interest. Through them we keep in touch with the current problems, which affect so much if we neglect them. Again the morning paper brings to our knowledge all the notable events that occur in distant lands. The advertisement column gives us information where we can find work for ourselves or improve our prospects. Reviews of books help us to choose the best books. Those who are interested in art, music, farming and sports find enough material for their interests.

It is evident that the newspaper is a great power as it deeply influences public opinion. The editors of the newspapers therefore have a heavy responsibility. The newspaper becomes a poor tool if it destroys truth, presents only the negative side, panders to low tastes and exaggerates sensational news. It has been discovered that some newspapers because of their misrepresentation or exaggeration of facts have caused communal riots.

A clean, honest, earnest and sincere newspaper can do a lot of good to the country by removing evils and bring light to the country.
