The transformation
"You have a command of language and you can easily win a prize", said my Hindi teacher. She was again trying to make me take part in an essay competition.
"Sorry madam, there are other better students than me who can easily win a prize. I can't stand a disappointment, if I lose," I said.
At least, I got my way. I knew that I sounded rude. I was on my way home. I was crossing the road, when, BUMP! I had collided with an handicapped man.
I muttered a weak sorry, when the man's face I saw made me utter a gasp of surprise.
He was Kishen, the famous painter who had been awarded a prize at the national level, last week. He too apologised and walked away on his crutches.
It was with a force of a rocket that the interview he had given a few days back came to my mind.
Kishen had met with an accident when he was 10 and lost his legs. He had stated that he always had an urge to achieve something in his life. It was his last words that I decided to apply in my life.
"I knew I could and felt I had to" he had stated. Suddenly, I came back to my senses. I had been standing in the middle of the road, blocking the traffic. I moved on quickly deciding to stay alert on road. I also decided to take part in the competition.
Isn't self-confidence, a virtue, we must adopt in our lives?
