Hope in the debris

In the debris of the earthquake
There lies a child
Well and alive
In the ruins of his house.
He did not he was alone,
Aloof in the wide world,
For his parents lay dead and numb.
He smiled and played
Striking out his soft hands and legs,
Quite unaware the ruins around.
He opened his mouth for want of milk.
But got none.
He did not know that his mother
Who once fed him and soothed him with her kisses
Is lifeless and will never open his eyes.
For want of sweet milk
His cries broke the silence of the dead ruins.
Thank god, for he has no memory of the past
Or shattered dreams
But only hopes of life.
