Tractor drawn sugarcane planter performs the jobs of sett cutting, furrow opening, fertilizer placement and covering the setts, reducing time and labour.
UAL SUGARCANE planting is tedious and time consuming. Tractor drawn sugarcane planter performs the jobs of sett cutting, furrow opening, fertilizer placement and covering the setts, reducing time and labour.
The two row sugarcane planter consists of two twin counter rotating rollers, two ridger bottoms, a fertilizer box and furrow closing shovels. The whole seed canes are stacked on the machine. Knives are fixed on the counter rotating rollers which are driven by the tractor power take off shaft.
The canes are cut into setts of pre-determined length and carried to the furrow formed by the ridger bottoms. Two operators sitting on chairs provided on the frame of the sugarcane planter feed the whole canes through the chutes.
The cut setts fall in the middle of the furrow. The setts are then covered with soil by the shovels provided at the back of the machine.
Row to row spacing in the sugarcane planter can be adjusted from 830 mm to 1000 mm. Depth of furrow formed by the machine is 250 mm to 300 mm. Average length of three budded setts cut by the machine ranges from 350 mm to 360 mm.
Average length of overlap between the setts placed in the furrow is 150 to 180 mm. Fertilizer (super phosphate) is applied as basal dose by the machine along with the setts at the rate of 320 kg per hectare. The machine is capable of planting sugarcane at a minimum rate of 2.5 to 3 acre per day of 8 hours.
