Court cannot decide on Ram temple: VHP

Ranchi July 6. The Vishwa Hindu Parishad today said the court could not decide where the Ram temple should be built in Ayodhya.

``No court can decide where Lord Ram was born and direct where a temple should be constructed,'' the senior VHP vice-president, Acharya Giriraj Kishore told a press conference here.

``The Government should announce that a temple could be constructed at Lord Ram's birthplace. One day such a Government will definitely come,'' he said.

Acharya Kishore, who is participating in the central committee meeting of the VHP at the Rani Sati mandir here, said that ``it's not that we don't obey court orders. Rather, on a few occasions the Government itself did not obey them as in the Shah Bano case.''

He also criticised the Human Rights Commission for visiting Ranchi to ascertain how the former Hurriyat Conference leader, Syed Ali Shah Geelani, was being treated by the authorities of the Birsa Munda Central Jail. "The human rights organisation should understand that Geelani is an anti-national and booked under POTA. They should stop acting like a minority cell.''

Acharya Kishore clarified that the VHP had demanded the trifurcation of Jammu and Kashmir and not its division into four union territories. ``We have demanded that Jammu and Kashmir be divided into three parts — Jammu, Ladak and a place for displaced Hindu pandits,'' he said when the media sought a clarification. On Thursday, the VHP international general secretary, Praveenbhai Togadia told a press conference here that the organisation's demand was for division of the state into four union territories — Jammu (consisting of Poonch, Rajouri, Doda), Leh-Ladak, Anantnag (north and western sides of Jhelum) and Srinagar, which should include Pakistan-occupied Kashmir
