Opinion - Letters to the Editor

Judicial reforms

Sir, — This is with reference to the two-part article ``Reforms Agenda'' (Aug. 14, 15) by Justice V.R. Krishna Iyer. Criticism of court judgments, which are made without prejudice or vendetta, should not invite contempt proceedings. But there is no need for any statutory provision to allow it. A correct interpretation and application of Article 18 of the Constitution is enough.

The suggestion on the setting up of a commission for investigations into corruption at all levels of judiciary is welcome as the Chief Justice of India himself had conceded that corruption prevailed in a section of the judiciary.

M.K. Krishnan,
Thiruvananthapuram
