33 killed in stampede

Dhaka Dec. 1. Around 33 persons, including 27 women and four children, died in a stampede while scrambling to collect `zakat' clothes being distributed by a mill owner in the northern district town this morning.

The Government has formed a three-member probe committee to investigate the incident.

Witnesses said about 10,000 persons thronged the Paschimpara residence at 7 a.m. responding to an earlier announcement.

The gateman and the younger brother of the industrialist have been arrested on charges of negligence. — UNI
