Dubai bail for Anees?

NEW DELHI DEC. 13. As reports of the underworld don, Anees Ibrahim, getting bail in Dubai were being floated this evening, the Central Bureau of Investigation remained mystified over the dramatic development. A key accused in the 1993 Mumbai serial bomb blasts, Anees Ibrahim was arrested on December 3 by the Dubai Police, and the UAE authorities had asked the CBI to send its request for his extradition. Sources in the CBI said the agency had neither received a communication from the UAE authorities nor learnt anything from the Indian mission there about bail being granted to Anees Ibrahim. And they were inclined to attribute to the underworld elements the "unconfirmed'' reports.

On a plea by the Mumbai Police, a Special Court has issued a non-bailable arrest warrant against Anees Ibrahim. The warrant was issued by the designated judge, Abhay Thipsay, on Wednesday. The warrant is open-dated and will be in force until it is executed. The Mumbai Police had stepped up efforts to obtain the non-bailable warrant against Anees in order to forward it to the Interpol, which will hand it over to the UAE Government.
