Varsities in Kota, Bikaner planned

JAIPUR DEC. 14. Multi-faculty universities are proposed to be opened soon in Bikaner and Kota districts of Rajasthan to give a boost to higher education in these areas.

Announcing this on Friday at Lal Bahadur Shastri Government Post-Graduate College in Kotputli near here, the Chief Minister, Ashok Gehlot, said all steps would be taken to build an atmosphere conducive to the development of higher education in the State.

The Government had, during the past four years, announced establishment of six universities, of which three have been opened. The establishment of technical colleges is expected to benefit about 5,000 students across the State. Earlier, the students from Rajasthan used to seek admission in colleges in Karnataka and Maharashtra for pursuing medical and engineering studies.

Mr. Gehlot said the education network in the State was expanding steadily with campaigns like "Shiksha Aapke Dwar'', and Rajasthan hoped to achieve the target of full literacy by 2003.
