Century on Debut by Deepak Shodhan

On the 14th in Calcutta, Gujarat left-hinder Deepak H. Shodhan scored a Test century on debut, to become the sixth Indian cricketer to do so. He joined the illustrious company of K.S. Ranjitsinghji, K.S. Duleepsinghji, Nawab Iftikhar Ali Khan of Pataudi (all on debut for England), and his own skipper Lala Amarnath, the only one to have achieved the feat playing in a Test for India.

Coming in at No. 8, with the score for India reading 179 for 6 in reply to Pakistan's 257, Shodhan added 86 runs for the seventh wicket with Dattu Phadkar, and went on to compile an excellent 110, enabling India to total 397.
