Opinion - Letters to the Editor

Goebbelsian

Sir, — Goebbels' rule was ``repeat a lie thousand times, it becomes a truth''. The Indian brand of Goebbels such as Togadias, Singhals, Modis, Thackereys and Advanis are honestly following the footsteps of their role models — Hitler and co.

Mr. Togadia's warning of ``death sentence'' to anti-Hindutva (Sangh Parivar brand) forces and `secularists' amounts to violation of the Constitution. By ``secularists'', he means, all those who oppose fundamentalism, fanaticism and love human values, progressive ideas. This uncivilised talk must be condemned and this intolerance must not be tolerated.

Sri, — The BJP's victory in Gujarat has proved again that religious sentiment is the easiest of emotions that can be swayed for political advantage. During the extensive campaign and the ``gauvrav yatra'', all aspects of good governance were given a go-by, projecting only the Hindutva agenda of the Sangh Parivar.

But having won, Narendra Modi has to prove that he is adept also in the wholesome principles of good governance.

K. Sathyadevan,

Sir, — Even after the voters of Gujarat have opted to drink deep from "the poisoned chalice", the media does not seem to have reconciled itself to the ground realities.

Those who criticised the BJP for having divided the State on communal lines are now busy dividing the State on regional lines (like north Gujarat, Saurashtra, Kutch, etc.) in a desperate bid to belittle at least part of the electorate.
