Lawyers' strike

Sir, __ Since the lawyers' community is part and parcel of the legal system of administration, the question arises — can the Supreme Court take suo motu proceedings on "contempt of court" against lawyers?

If yes, how to implement it against so vast a number of defendants?

If not, as a layman, I am in a fix — where will the litigants go for justice?

What about the tall talk of our politicians that India is the biggest democracy in the world?

This dispute within the judiciary is a big blow to our `democracy'.

Therefore, it is high time we worked out a fool-proof legal system so that similar situations may not recur.

A.B. Biswas,

Chennai
