Pak., U.S. troops clash

Islamabad Jan. 4. In the second incident of cross-firing within a week, Pakistani and United States troops exchanged heavy fire in a tribal area on the Pakistan-Afghan border even as the President, Pervez Musharraf, held telephonic talks with his U.S. counterpart, George W. Bush, to defuse tension arising out of last weekend skirmish.

The Pakistani and U.S.-Afghan forces on the Pakistan-Afghan border near Angoor Adda of South Waziristan Agency exchanged heavy machine gunfire early yesterday, The News reported from the Pakistani tribal town of Wana. Gen. Musharraf also spoke to the U.S. Secretary of State, Colin Powell, over phone yesterday about last Sunday's border clash between Pakistani and U.S. troops.
