Sir, With reference to the report, `Don't let outsiders abuse religion, Lyngdoh tells Himachal voters' (Jan. 9), such intervention by the Chief Election Commissioner was uncalled for. It might irritate, if not also provoke, the Hindus into consolidating against secular parties. This happened during the recent polls in Gujarat because Mr. Lyngdoh was perceived by the voters to favour Sonia Gandhi's Congress. Quite unwittingly, he acted as a vote gatherer for the BJP which, in turn, was unfair to the minorities.
